The ESC name refers to Electronic Speed Control. This is a crucial component of the drone that allows you to regulate the speed and direction of motors. It’s similar to using a remote control for a toy car to make it go faster or stop. To put it in simpler words, ESC technology makes a drone to fly/move/change direction like a car on the road. Without ESC technology, drones would not be able to take off or land smoothly, nor would they find it easy to make sharp turns or travel a long distance without crashing.
Each drone has four motors and each motor is connected to an ESC. A battery feeds the ESCs, which send signals to motors about what they should do. Think of the ESCs as little computers that communicate with the flight controller, which is essentially the drone's brain. The flight controller then decides what speed you want each motor to spin up which allows you to control the movement of your drone in the air. If the flight controller tells the ESCs to spin motors faster, the drone goes up. If it instructs them to spin more slowly, the drone will descend.
